why pioneer ranch camps?

LIFE CHANGING OUTTRIPS
What makes Pioneer Camps unique in Canada? One aspect is our out-tripping program for camps operating from The Ranch on Crimson Lake.

All campers at our senior camps experience a four or five day wilderness adventure – whether it be white water canoeing, high country horseback riding, mountain biking or backpacking. Each trek is a camp within camp and each one builds skills and character.

SINGLE GENDER CAMPS
Another aspect that makes Pioneer Camps unique is that we continue to offer single-gender camps as well as co-ed camps. Leaders at these camps are of the same gender, acting as role models and offer plenty of opportunity for mentoring.

Girls love coming to our five different girls camps and we are national leaders in working with boys – who stay with us as campers until they finish high school! Truly amazing!

AWESOME STAFF
Pioneer Camps are all about leadership development. As such, our staff are highly committed, enthusiastic Christian volunteers who are university students or adults.

Many staff return year after year because of their love of youth, camping and wilderness adventure. Because we are volunteer based, we are able to boast an unrivalled staff-to-camper ratio of one staff member for every two campers – or better!

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
Pioneer Camps and its owners, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), are interested in the spiritual development of youth. As such, each camp includes a range of age appropriate Bible studies, speakers, drama presentations and worship.

Our goal is to engage campers in thoughtful discussion and exploration concerning the Christian journey, as we seek to share the exciting truth of God’s love with campers.

LOTS OF HORSEBACK RIDING
Our name gives away another secret: We’re into horses in a big way. For most of our campers, riding is a highlight.

For those interested, riding is available in two hour blocks. Campers at our two-week camps who choose a riding outtrip spend a large part of each day riding on their trek.

Campers at our Peace Country Pioneer Camps discover 'riding immersion' as they ride the hills of the Peace or Smoky Rivers, or explore the Kakwa high country.

CURB TO CABIN TRANSPORTATION SERVICE
One aspect that sets us apart in the camping world is our ongoing commitment to provide round-trip transportation by coach to each camp from Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton (except for Discovery, Riding Camp and LIT).

We encourage campers to use the service because the camp experience begins on the bus – and then everyone arrives at camp at the same time. (Surprises often await campers as the bus rolls into camp. The rest is secret information!) The cost is included in the camp fee.
