Where is Pioneer Ranch Camps located?
Pioneer Ranch Camps have two sites in central Alberta with a third camp in the Peace Country.

  1. Pioneer Lodge is located 16 km SW of Sundre. Pioneer Lodge is the head office in the province and all bookings are processed through that office.
  2. Pioneer Ranch is located on Crimson Lake, 10 miles NW of Rocky Mtn. House.

What happens on rainy days?
Most activities go ahead as planned. Some activities like climbing and hiking are better suited to warm and sunny weather so as an alternate, we plan indoor activities, such as team building games and indoor wide games, are substituted. During a thunderstorm, everyone is moved inside.

What does a typical menu look like?
We strive to serve balanced & delicious meals. Special dietary concerns can be taken care of with one week's advance notice. For allergy concerns, see the peanut policy.

How are meals served?
Most meals are served buffet-style in the dining room. After each meal, one person from each table is assigned to scrape the dishes and take them to the dish pit.

Are there snacks during the day?
Yes. There are afternoon and evening snacks served each day. The afternoon snack is usually between the 2 afternoon activity blocks and the evening snack usually around 9pm.

What are chaperones expected to do?
We ask chaperones to stay in the cabins or dorm rooms with the students/youth each night. Our staff teach each of the activity areas, but chaperones are also present at each activity to help with general supervision and crowd control.

Three chaperones are needed during each horseback riding activity block to tail each of the 3 trail rides. Any disciplinary issues are dealt with by the lead chaperone. During free time and between evening snack and lights out, chaperones are also asked to be available to supervise.

Is there a self-catering option?
Yes, there is a self-catering option at Pioneer Lodge (Sundre) for groups under 30 people. There is a separate log cabin on site (called Nikki's Chalet) that has a kitchen with one fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, freezer, etc. There is also room in Nikki's Chalet to set up chairs & tables for eating.
